Discovering Oman — Meteorite Fall in Bimmah
Oman — An Arab country with all of its worth-seeing sights situated in southeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula of Western Asia is famous for its tourism.
Oman, officially the Sultanate of Oman ( Arabic : سلطنة عُمان) is the world’s major site of meteorite discoveries after Antarctica over the past few years. Among them, one is the fell of Star.
YES YESS YESSS …. !
I am talking about the fall of star in Oman.
Bimmah Sinkhole is the world’s largest sinkhole, was created by a falling star. But on the other hand, Geologists have confirmed that it happened due to erosion. There is a contradiction of locals Omani and Geologists. As a tourist, I was more focused on enjoying the beautiful place, surrounding mountains and fresh water of sinkhole. The location is quite easy through Muscat highway by car because there is no hiking. It is located 1.5 hours away from Muscat and 55 minutes from the town of Sur between the coastal towns of Dibab and Bimmah.
The hole is 40 meters wide and 20 meters deep which is 600 meter away from the sea on one side and mountains on the other side.
The Government of Oman constructed a park around it to preserve a large hole in the Earth that is filled with some fresh water called “Hawaiyat Najm Park” (هـويـة نـجـم) which means “Falling Star” in Arabic and hence the name .
Around 80 cement stairs is constructed to go down with the grill on both sides for safety. Foreigners enjoy swimming in fresh water of sinkhole which is connected through underwater tunnel with the sea of Gulf of Oman. Some of them also did the cliffing but that’s not allowed from the tourist authorities of Oman. Tourist did cliffing and diving on your own risk because challenging oneself seems far more satisfying when it comes to explore nature. The pictures above depict the sight-fulness of sinkhole.. Besides the sinkhole, Hawaiyat Najm Park has different swings for kids and small shelters to sit and enjoy the view of mountains & date palms.
Incredible journey and the time spent in Bimmah is one of the memories for me to cherish for a lifetime. I believe such worth-seeing and tremendous events do not happen commonly and watching it generates mesmerising sense of happiness one would ever like to regard.
If you visit the Muscat, do plan to spend some time in Bimmah and experience the beautiful scenes.
